ARTIST

Artist Profile Picture.jpg

Alexia Koudigkeli was born in Athens in 1996. She is a visual artist with an international presence, currently based in Athens.

From an early age, art became the way through which she communicated with the world around her — but more importantly, with her inner world. Alexia graduated the University of the Arts London (UAL) in 2018 and the Athens College in 2014, and she has been steadily building a distinct path in contemporary art, with solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. From 2010 to 2014, she attended the Merso School of Painting under the guidance of Despoina Sevasti, where she deepened her first steps in personal artistic exploration. Through a series of solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, her works have been presented in renowned venues and are part of private collections around the world.

Her painting does not seek to impress, but to express truth. At the core of her work are figures and landscapes that translate emotions, questions, and experiences into color and form. Through acrylics, spray paints, and strong contrasts of light, she creates images that serve as "mirrors" of the inner life — both personal and collective. Her work balances between intensity and silence, and despite the contradictions it captures, it embodies optimism — an ongoing search for light, truth, and understanding of the human experience.

ARTIST'S

STATEMENT

Art, for me, is a process of self-discovery. I paint because it is the truest way I know to perceive what I feel. I do not chase beauty — I chase truth.

My inspiration comes from poetry, because, just like poetry, my work seeks to express what cannot be fully captured by words. Colour becomes the language through which I communicate emotions, states, and ideas that reflect the depth of the human experience. Through colour, the deepest emotions, contradictions of human existence, and the continuous search for truth emerge. Light and depth are fundamental elements in my work. Through the intense contrasts of light and darkness, I strive to reveal the truth of human existence and the contradictions that define it. Each line, each colour, each figure is a stop in an endless search for meaning and the many versions of myself.

My art does not aim to impress but to communicate — to create an emotional connection with the viewer and provoke them to see the world through different eyes. The process of creation is alive and ever-evolving, just like the dialogue with the audience. In every piece, I try to find the light within the darkness and uncover the truth hidden beneath the surface of everyday life.

I never know how a painting will evolve. I always begin with the question "What colour do I feel today?" and I let myself go. Every piece reveals something new about me. I hope it does for the viewer too.
